What is That Zine Thing?
At the moment, That Zine Thing is the platform I’m going to use to showcase zines I make on my own and with others. However I’d like That Zine Thing to become a place to find cool projects to get involved with; online, from any part of the country, but also within events and markets in my local area of Herefordshire. I’ve got lots of ideas to get started and hope that you’ll like to join That Zine Thing’s journey, whether it’s to contribute to submissions, to get the zines we’ll make, or just to see the many things we’ll be posting on social media!

About me
I’m Emily, a 24-year-old Illustration graduate who loves zines. From challenging myself to make a mini zine everyday for 3 and a half months, to making and selling my own zines, to becoming part of the AUB Zine Society committee in my final year, I’ve loved getting stuck into projects that involve making these little things. Being a committee member in the zine society, I learned how much I enjoyed creating zines with others and giving artists and creatives a platform to showcase their work. It was sad to leave the community we’d created in the society behind, and from day one of graduating I wondered how I could create a similar community outside of university. Having moved to a new part of the country where I’ve found it difficult to find many zine-related events or organisations near me, I decided to create my own thing - That Zine Thing!

Monthly zine-making challenge
"This is the start of a challenge I want to set myself - and you can join in too if you want!
I once managed to make 1 mini zine a day for 3 and a half months straight, and want to be able to make those kinds of zines again! Starting off slow, though, by setting myself the challenge to make a few zines a month (hopefully 1 every week but we’ll see about that).
Instead of one set word for a theme, I want to make inspo collages/mood boards like these ones! So inspo can be taken from the photos, the colours, the words, the illustrations and even the art style.
Anyone is more than welcome to use this as a prompt too! I’d love to see what you make so tag me in your photos or stories if you’d like :)"
