From the Witch's Scullery is my second small business with an online shop. We sell witchy, spiritual and nature-themed journalling supplies such as stickers, note pads, patterned paper, vintage paper packs, calendars and quote prints. We began work on it halfway throught 2023, where we began designing our products. Once we had an idea of the kind of things we wanted to make, I began designing a logo and branding that reflected our products and aim as a business.
I pulled much of my inspiration for the logo from medieval block prints as the era feels synonymous to witches (for better or for worse). I looked at some of the detailed, black-and-white artwork from the time and kept it in mind when designing the logo.
When deciding on fonts to use, we decided to make our own, both for the logo and for promotional material. My partner researched and created a handwritten font, which I scanned in, cleaned up in Illustrator, and made into a type-able font.
The cleaned-up versions of the upper and lower case handlettering.
With the font and logo designed, I went on to create business cards, thank you cards for orders, and advertisements to put up in shops and other community spaces with bulletin boards. To make things more fun, I used frog designs I created for a sticker sheet on these promotional materials, and kept with the theme by scanning in pages from antique books to use in the backgrounds.
An advertisement I designed with the intention that readers will rip off a strip from the bottom to keep. On the back of each strip is our logo.
The information we place on the back of our prints: our logo, social media and the title of the artwork. (And if necessary, my @letsgetarty logo if it is an illustration I created.)
Stickers made out of our logo with our Instagram handle, to give out for free at markets. We made them to act like a business card.
We made sure we chose a specific look for our promotional photos so that they would look cohesive and in line with the aesthetic we wish to promote our products in. We use vintage papers, dried flowers, trinkets, crystals, feathers, shells and any other natural material we think will compliment the product being photographed.
